Magdalena Varley - My jewellery collection pays tribute to my homeland – Africa. Born and raised in South Africa, this spectacular continent has etched its mark on me forever.
When I think of Africa I think of the vibrant culture and the love that Mama Africa brings. No matter where you are from; when you arrive in Africa you get the feeling you have arrived "home".
This is evident in the flora and fauna that exists in such beautiful harmony - from the animal silhouettes against the bold sunset, to the nurturing sun giving love and life to everything it touches.
An African collection would not be complete without paying respect to the fauna, which this continent is so well known for. It was a tough decision picking out my favorite five animals. I chose the lion for it's strength and courage, the rhino, as it is so robust, the elephant for its wisdom, the cheetah for its agility and the giraffe for its elegance.
These are all aspects that I respect in Africa’s wildlife. When I picture these incredible animals, I see them on a picturesque landscape, on the horizon as a silhouette with the sun beaming behind them– and this is reflected in the design. This mini-collection called “My big 5” features these animal elements in a ring collection and gorgeous simple stud earrings.
